About the event
Bordeaux and Game
Thursday 17 December 2026, 7pm. Twelve seats. £75 per person.
The château owners’ secret: their second wines.
Every great Bordeaux estate makes two wines. The grand vin, which carries the name and the price, and the second wine, made from the same vineyards by the same hands in the same cellar, declassified simply because the fruit came from younger vines or a slightly lesser parcel. The château owners drink the second wine at home. This evening explains why.
Game season is at its peak, and Bordeaux has been its companion for three hundred years. We are putting the two together as they were always meant to be.
Hosted by our sommelier, Nataliia Maisieionok.
The flight
Château Fongrave
Where we begin. Honest, properly made Bordeaux and the benchmark for everything that follows.
Château Beaumont
Haut-Médoc, and a reminder that the gap between a cru bourgeois and a classified growth is narrower than the price suggests.
Château Ormes de Pez
Saint-Estèphe, under the same ownership as Lynch-Bages. Structured, earthy and built for a plate of game.
Baron de Brane, the second wine of Brane-Cantenac
Margaux. The same team, the same vineyards, a fraction of the price of the grand vin.
Echo de Lynch-Bages, the second wine of Lynch-Bages
Pauillac, and the clearest demonstration of the evening’s argument. Everything you recognise in the first wine, at a quarter of the cost.
The sommelier’s surprise
One further bottle, chosen personally by Nataliia and revealed only on the night.
On the plate
Small game plates from our kitchen, served through the evening. Game terrine, pheasant croquettes and venison carpaccio, alongside hard cheeses chosen to sit with the older wines.
Twelve seats only. The evening runs from 7pm and lasts approximately two hours. Over 21s. £75 per person, paid at the time of booking.
